Specialty tapes that meet
the highest standards.
3M specialty tapes are engineered for critical electrical jobs that demand long-lasting insulation, moisture protection, and shielding. Designed for cable splicing, terminating, and jacketing applications up to 69 kV, these tapes include self-bonding rubber, corrosion-resistant mastics, conductive wraps, and resin-reinforced materials. Whether you are restoring cable structure or sealing out moisture in underground systems, 3M delivers field-tested products trusted by contractors, utilities, and industrial teams.
Summit Electric Supply provides access to a complete range of 3M specialty tapes for insulation, shielding, sealing, and mechanical protection. Our inventory includes solutions for high-voltage splicing, underground sealing, and outer jacket repair. Whether you are managing direct burial projects, restoring cable integrity, or maintaining substation infrastructure, our team can help match the right 3M product to your installation needs.

What you can expect from 3M Specialty Tape.
- High-Voltage Insulation – 3M Scotch® 130C and Scotch® 23 tapes build dielectric strength during splicing and terminating. These self-bonding rubber tapes are rated for use up to 69 kV and are trusted in switchgear, substations, and industrial cable runs where insulation must be compact and durable.
- Watertight Seal – EPR-based rubber tapes like Scotch® 23 fuse to themselves on contact, forming a continuous moisture barrier. This seal helps protect underground, outdoor, or direct burial installations from water damage.
- Moisture Control – Scotch® 2228 combines a mastic adhesive with a rubber backing to seal over connectors, cable heads, and jacket transitions. It conforms to uneven surfaces and remains effective in wet or buried environments.
- Shielding Continuity – Scotch® 24 shielding tape restores conductivity across splices and helps maintain proper grounding. Its flat copper construction offers a low-resistance path that supports shield performance in cable construction.
- Jacket Protection – Armorcast resin-impregnated fiberglass wraps create a hardened outer shell over the splice area. This protects against physical impact, UV exposure, and soil pressure after direct burial or conduit work.
- Heat Resistance – Scotch® 69 and Scotch® 70 glass cloth tapes are designed to handle high temperatures and resist arc flash. Common in switchgear and motor leads, these tapes provide added thermal protection where it’s needed most.
- Standards Compliance – Each specialty tape meets or exceeds key industry standards for dielectric strength, thermal aging, UV performance, and chemical resistance. They support safe, code-compliant installs in utility and industrial systems.
